About

An AI consulting firm that actually builds.

Most AI consultants in South Africa do one of two things: write strategy decks for banks and telcos, or sell off-the-shelf chatbots. We do something different — proper analysis of your business, then build only what makes sense. For the businesses everyone else has been ignoring.

Why we exist

The gap was the size of the SA economy.

Walk into any AI consultancy in Joburg, Cape Town, or Stellenbosch and you'll get the same pitch: a 6-month strategy engagement, a R2-million minimum, slide decks about "digital transformation", and three months of meetings before anyone touches code.

Walk into any AI automation agency and you'll get the opposite extreme: someone selling you a chatbot they sell to everyone, no analysis of your business, no idea whether it's actually the right thing for you to build first.

The AI Team sits in the gap. Proper analysis like a consulting firm. Real implementation like a build shop. Plain English, fixed price, SA-built. One team that does both — instead of one firm to think and another to build.

What we believe

Five rules. Non-negotiable.

1. Plain English, always.

If we can't explain what we're building on a WhatsApp message, we won't charge for it. No "agentic orchestration layers". No "RAG pipelines". Just: "this answers your customers."

2. Fixed prices, fixed scope.

Hourly billing punishes good engineers and rewards slow ones. Every package is a fixed number with a fixed list of what's included. You know the bill before we start.

3. Live in 7 days, not 7 months.

If a build takes longer than 7 working days from sign-off, something is wrong with the scope. Either we cut it down to ship the first version fast, or we don't take it on.

4. The AI says "I don't know" out loud.

Every system we build has a clear handoff rule. When the AI is unsure, it tells the customer "let me get a human" and pings your team. Wrong answers wreck businesses faster than no answers do.

5. We use everything we ship.

Nothing we build for you is something we wouldn't run in our own business. If we wouldn't trust it with our own customers, we don't sell it to you.

From the founder

Built by a salesperson who learned to build.

Spent two decades selling — the call, the handshake, the close. The work I loved was talking to customers and figuring out what they actually needed. The work I hated was everything that happened around it: the admin, the systems, the things that should have just worked.

When AI got good enough to actually take that work off my plate, I built it for myself. The lesson wasn't "AI is magic". The lesson was that most businesses don't need more tools — they need someone to figure out which tools fit, in what order, for what return. That's a consulting problem before it's a building problem.

So I built The AI Team to do both: the analysis to figure out what matters, and the implementation to make it real. One team. One bill. One accountable partner.

If that sounds like the AI partner you wished existed — book a free discovery call. No cost, no obligation. We tell you straight what's worth doing — even if the answer is "not yet".
